LV1 Visa Application Procedures

What is LV1 Visa?

LV1 Visa, also known as the work visa, is a type of visa specifically issued for foreigners working with central agencies or visiting members of government representative offices in Vietnam.

According to the regulations in Article 8 of Law No. 47/2014/QH13, the LV1 symbol is granted for:

  • Foreigners working with diplomatic missions, consulates, international organizations under the United Nations, intergovernmental organizations’ representative offices.
  • Foreigners visiting members of diplomatic missions, consulates, international organizations under the United Nations, intergovernmental organizations’ representative offices.

Duration of LV1 Work Visa:

According to immigration law, LV1 visas are issued to foreigners for a maximum period of 01 year. Additionally, foreigners granted LV1 visas are eligible to apply for a temporary residence card with a symbol similar to the visa symbol, valid for up to 5 years if they plan to reside or work in Vietnam for more than 1 year.

Requirements for Obtaining LV1 Visa:

To be eligible for the LV1 visa, foreigners must meet the following conditions:

  1. Possess a passport or internationally recognized travel document with a valid period.
  2. Have an invitation letter/guarantee letter/documents proving employment with government agencies or organizations.
  3. Not fall under the cases of non-entry specified in Article 21 of Law No. 47/2014/QH13.

Procedure for Applying for LV1 Visa in Vietnam:

Foreigners applying for an LV1 visa can submit their application directly to the Vietnamese consulate in their home country or apply for an entry permit for work purposes to obtain the LV1 visa.

For applying at the Embassy:

  • Prepare the required documents according to the embassy’s specifications and submit them directly to the nearest consular office.

For applying for an entry permit:

  • Step 1: The inviting government agency, sponsor, and the foreigner agree on the entry information and prepare the necessary documents for the LV1 visa application.
  • Step 2: The representative of the sponsoring organization submits the application and request for an entry permit for the foreigner at the Immigration Department.
  • Step 3: After receiving the entry permit issued by the Immigration Department, the sponsoring organization sends the entry permit to the foreigner via email, fax, etc.
  • Step 4: Upon receiving the entry permit, the foreigner prepares the necessary documents for the LV1 visa sticker and proceeds with the visa process at the embassy or international border checkpoint as indicated in the entry permit.

Documents Required for LV1 Visa Application:

Documents for entry permit application for work purposes for foreigners:

  1. Entry permit request letter for foreigners (Form NA2).
  2. Original passport with a valid period as per regulations.
  3. Documents proving employment with central agencies, Communist Party of Vietnam, National Assembly, Government, Central Committee of the Fatherland Front, Supreme People’s Court, Supreme People’s Procuracy, etc.
  4. Additional documents as required.

Note:

  • In the case of a valid application, the applicant must pay the immigration officer’s fee, and the Immigration Department will issue a receipt. The result of the application will be provided within 3-5 working days from the date of submission of a valid application.
  • If additional documents are required, the Immigration Department will guide the applicant on the necessary documents and the resubmission process.

Documents Required for LV1 Visa Sticker:

After receiving the approved entry permit, the foreigner needs the following documents for visa sticker issuance:

  1. Visa request form, Vietnam entry permit form (Form NA1).
  2. Passport-sized photos (4×6 cm, taken within the last 6 months).
  3. Original passport with a valid period.
  4. Printed copy of the approved entry permit from the Immigration Department.
  5. Visa issuance fee. The processing time for LV1 work visa applications for foreigners is approximately 3-5 working days from the date of receiving all required documents.

Cost of LV1 Work Visa:

The visa issuance fee for LV1 visas depends on the visa duration and the number of entries:

  • Single-entry visa: $25 USD.
  • Multiple-entry visa valid for up to 3 months: $50 USD.
  • Multiple-entry visa valid for up to 6 months: $95 USD.
  • Multiple-entry visa valid for up to 1 year: $135 USD.

Please note that these fees are determined by the Vietnamese government and apply to all foreign citizens applying for a Vietnam visa. Additionally, foreign nationals may incur additional charges such as translation and notarization fees, and service fees for entry permit documents.
