NG1 Visa in Vietnam for Foreigners

What is an NG1 Visa in Vietnam? Eligible Applicants for NG1 Visa

In the past, foreigners who were official members of invited delegations from the Central Party Committee, National Assembly, President of Vietnam were issued visas marked A1 (according to Joint Circular No. 04/2002/TTLT/BCA-BNG).

According to the latest regulations, individuals who are members of invited delegations of the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the President of Vietnam, the Chairman of the National Assembly, and the Prime Minister will be issued an NG1 Visa, also known as a diplomatic visa (under Law No. 47/2014/QH13, effective from January 01, 2015).

Requirements for NG1 Visa

To be eligible for this visa, foreigners falling under the aforementioned categories must meet the following conditions:

  1. Possess a valid passport or international travel document.
  2. Have an invitation letter/guarantee from a government organization.
  3. Not belong to the categories prohibited from entry as prescribed.

Inviting and Guaranteeing Foreigners for Entry

Step 1: Foreigners eligible for NG1 Visas through inviting or guaranteeing organizations send a request for visa issuance to the competent authority of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Step 2: The inviting or guaranteeing organization informs the competent authority of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in writing to instruct the competent authority to issue the visa for Vietnam at the overseas Vietnamese visa-issuing authority, if a visa is required. Simultaneously, the organization must notify the immigration control authority about the entry of the foreigner.

Step 3: Upon receiving the reply from the competent authority of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the inviting or guaranteeing organization informs the foreigner to proceed with visa issuance at the competent authority for Vietnam’s visa issuance at the overseas Vietnamese visa-issuing authority.

Documents Required for NG1 Visa Application

Foreigners applying for NG1 Visa must complete the visa issuance procedure at the competent authority for Vietnam’s visa issuance at the overseas Vietnamese visa-issuing authority. The required documents include:

  1. Valid passport.
  2. Passport-sized photos following passport standards.
  3. Documents proving membership in the invited delegation of the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the President of Vietnam, the Chairman of the National Assembly, or the Prime Minister.
  4. Visa application form according to the provided template.
  5. Other necessary documents as required.

Note: The inviting or guaranteeing organization must pay the prescribed fee to the competent authority of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to process the visa issuance notification.

Validity Period of NG1 Diplomatic Visa

Upon completing all required procedures and documents, foreigners will be issued an NG1 Visa with a maximum validity period of 12 months. However, it’s crucial to note that the NG1 Visa falls under the category without temporary residence cards. If foreigners wish to continue staying in Vietnam, they need to apply for a new Vietnam Visa according to regulations.

Processing Time for NG1 Diplomatic Visa in Vietnam

The competent authority for Vietnam’s visa issuance at overseas Vietnamese visa-issuing authorities will issue the NG1 Visa within one working day. The time is calculated from the date of receiving instructions from the competent authority of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the passport and visa application form with attached photos.
