What is Family Visit Visa (TT, VR Visa) in Vietnam?

A family visit visa is one of the common types of visas for foreigners wishing to enter Vietnam. Typically, family visit visas are denoted as TT visas, although the specific designation may vary based on the case.

Who is Eligible for Family Visit Visa in Vietnam? Family visit visas are granted to the following individuals:

  • Foreign nationals who are spouses, children under 18 years old of foreign nationals working in Vietnam, OR
  • Foreign nationals who are parents, spouses, or children of Vietnamese citizens. To obtain a family visit visa, foreign nationals need to prove their relationship through documents such as marriage certificates, birth certificates, and family household registration books. Additionally, sponsorship from an individual or company in Vietnam is required.

Family Visit Visa Application Process: What’s Involved? To apply for a family visit visa, you need to complete the following two steps: Step 1: Apply for a Vietnam Entry Permit – Family Visit Purpose This step is crucial if you intend to apply for a family visit visa. To obtain the entry permit, the sponsoring company in Vietnam must submit the necessary documents to the Vietnam Immigration Department for approval. Step 2: Complete the Family Visit Visa Application for Foreign Nationals Foreign nationals can apply for a family visit visa at Vietnamese Embassies/Consulates abroad, international border gates, or international airports in Vietnam, such as Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat, Da Nang, Cam Ranh, or Phu Quoc. The allowed visa issuance locations are based on the entry permit issued by the Vietnam Immigration Department.

Required Documents for Family Visit Visa Application: Step 1: Apply for a suitable entry permit. Entry permit for family visit purposes – Visa codes: TT or VR Note: Family sponsorship documents for foreigners entering Vietnam will vary based on the following scenarios:

  1. Foreign nationals with a valid Vietnam visa sponsoring family members applying for a family visit visa.
  2. Vietnamese citizens sponsoring foreign family members applying for a family visit visa. Confirm the location for visa issuance in Vietnam, which can be one of the following:
  • Embassy or Consulate of Vietnam abroad
  • International land border gates in Vietnam
  • International airports in Vietnam: Tan Son Nhat, Noi Bai, Da Nang, Cam Ranh, or Phu Quoc

Documents Verifying Family Relationships for Foreign Nationals Applying for Family Visit Visa:

  • Marriage certificate for spouses
  • Birth certificate/family household registration book (for parents, spouses, children)
  • Relationship proof documents such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, family records, etc. (these documents must be legalized by the consular office and translated into Vietnamese, unless exempted from legalization as per Article 9 of Decree No. 111/2011/NĐ-CP dated December 5, 2011, of the Government on consular certification, consular legalization).

Step 2: Prepare the Documents to Receive Family Visit Visa for Foreign Nationals Entering Vietnam at Vietnamese Embassies/Consulates or International Border Gates and Airports in Vietnam:

  • Original passport with a validity of over 6 months and at least 2 blank pages
  • 2 passport-size photos (4x6cm) with a white background
  • Copy of the entry permit letter
  • Completed visa application form for Vietnam.

Where to Submit Family Visit Visa Applications?

  • In Vietnam: The receiving authority for family visit visa applications is the Immigration Department of each province/city. The Immigration Department of Vietnam issues the family visit entry permit letter.
  • Abroad: Family visit visa applications can be submitted at the Vietnamese Embassy/Consulate in the host country or at border gates upon entry.

Processing Time for Family Visit Visa Application: The processing time for completing the entry permit procedure for foreign nationals is 5-7 working days or longer, depending on nationality and the desired duration of the Vietnam visa. The issuance time for family visit visas in Vietnam is no more than 5 working days from the date of receiving the complete documents.

Family Visit Visa Fees in Vietnam: Visa fees for family visit visas in Vietnam, as per the Ministry of Finance’s regulations and based on the visa duration, are as follows:

  • 25 USD per person: for 1-month single-entry and 3-month single-entry visas
  • 50 USD per person: for 1-month multiple-entry and 3-month multiple-entry visas
  • 95 USD per person: for multiple-entry visas over 3 to 6 months
  • 135 USD per person: for multiple-entry visas from 6 months to 1 year.
