What is Family Visit Visa (Visa TT, VR)?

The Family Visit Visa is one of the common types of visas foreigners apply for when they want to enter Vietnam. Typically, family visit visas are denoted as TT or VR visas, although the specific notation may vary depending on the case.

Eligibility for Family Visit Visa in Vietnam

The Family Visit Visa in Vietnam is granted to the following individuals:

  • Foreign spouses, children under 18 years old of foreigners working in Vietnam; OR
  • Foreign individuals who are parents, spouses, or children of Vietnamese citizens.

To apply for a family visit visa, foreign nationals need to prove their relationship through documents such as marriage certificates, birth certificates, and family household registration. Additionally, they require sponsorship from an individual or company in Vietnam.

Family Visit Visa Application Process

To obtain a family visit visa, you need to complete the following two steps:

Step 1: Apply for a Vietnamese Entry Permit – Family Visit Purpose

This step is crucial if you want to obtain a family visit visa. To get the entry permit, the sponsoring company in Vietnam must submit the application to the Vietnamese Immigration Department, requesting permission for the foreign national to enter Vietnam.

Step 2: Complete the Family Visit Visa Application for Foreign Nationals

Foreign nationals can collect their family visit visas from Vietnamese embassies/consulates abroad, international land border checkpoints, or international airports in Vietnam, such as Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat, Da Nang, Cam Ranh, or Phu Quoc. The designated visa collection points are determined based on the entry permit issued by the Vietnamese Immigration Department.

Documents Required for Family Visit Visa Application

Step 1: Apply for a Suitable Entry Permit.

Entry Permit for Family Visit Purposes – Visa Markings: TT or VR

Note: Documents for sponsoring foreign relatives to enter Vietnam will vary depending on the case:

  1. Foreign nationals with a valid Vietnamese visa sponsoring their relatives to apply for a family visit visa.
  2. Vietnamese citizens sponsoring their foreign relatives’ family visit visas.

Confirm the Visa Pickup Location in Vietnam: Choose from the following options:

  • Vietnamese Embassy or Consulate abroad
  • International land border checkpoints in Vietnam
  • International airports in Vietnam: Tan Son Nhat, Noi Bai, Da Nang, Cam Ranh, or Phu Quoc

Documents to Prove Relationship for Foreign Nationals Applying for Family Visit Visa:

  • Marriage certificate for spouses
  • Birth certificate/family household registration (for parents, spouses, and children)
  • Relationship confirmation documents such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, family books, etc. (these documents must be legalized by consulates and translated into Vietnamese, except for cases exempt from legalization as per Article 9 of Decree No. 111/2011/ND-CP dated December 5, 2011, of the Government on consular certification and legalization.)

Step 2: Prepare Documents for Collecting Family Visit Visa for Foreign Nationals Entering Vietnam:

  • Original passport valid for at least 6 months with a minimum of 2 blank pages
  • 2 recent passport-sized photos (4×6 cm) with a white background
  • Printout of the entry permit’s entire content
  • Completed visa application form

Where to Submit Family Visit Visa Applications?

  • In Vietnam: The authorized agency to receive family visit visa applications is the Immigration Office of each province/city. The entry permit is issued by the Vietnamese Immigration Department.
  • Abroad: The embassy/consulate of Vietnam in the host country or at border checkpoints upon entry.

Family Visit Visa Processing Time

The processing time for completing the entry permit procedures for foreign nationals is 5-7 working days or longer, depending on nationality and the desired validity period of the Vietnamese visa. Family visit visas are typically issued within 5 working days from the receipt of the complete documents.

Family Visit Visa Fees in Vietnam

Visa fees for family visits in Vietnam, based on the validity period granted, are as follows:

  • 25 USD per person: for 1-month single-entry and 3-month single-entry visas
  • 50 USD per person: for 1-month multiple-entry and 3-month multiple-entry visas
  • 95 USD per person: for visas valid for over 3 to 6 months, multiple entries
  • 135 USD per person: for visas valid for 6 months to 1 year, multiple entries.
