Navigating visa rules can be confusing. To help you prepare for your trip, we’ve compiled and answered the most common questions we receive from travelers about the Vietnam e-visa.

Application & Documents

1. Does my child or infant need a separate e-visa?
Yes. Every individual passport holder, regardless of age, needs their own e-visa. You must submit a separate application for each child.

2. What are the photo requirements for the e-visa?
You need a digital passport-style photo (4x6cm ratio) with a plain white background, taken recently. You must not wear glasses. A separate, clear scan of your passport’s information page is also required. See our full Photo Requirements Guide here.

3. The application asks for a “temporary address in Vietnam.” What should I put?
You can simply enter the name and address of your first hotel or accommodation. This does not need to be your permanent address for the whole trip.

Processing & Approval

4. How long does it really take to get the e-visa?
Standard government processing is 3-5 working days. However, this excludes weekends and Vietnamese public holidays. For faster results, our Urgent Service can deliver it in as little as 4-8 hours.

5. I haven’t received my e-visa after 5 days. What should I do?
First, check your application status on the official portal using your registration code. The system does not send an email upon approval. If it’s still “in processing,” there might be a backlog or an issue with your file. If you applied with us, contact our 24/7 support for an immediate status check.

6. My e-visa was denied! What now?
A denial is usually due to an error in the application (e.g., wrong name, bad photo). You must submit a new application with the corrected information. Read our guide on What to Do If Your E-Visa is Denied.

Using Your E-visa

7. Do I need to print my e-visa?
Absolutely, yes. You must present a printed, physical copy of the e-visa at both your departure airline’s check-in counter and the immigration counter in Vietnam. A digital copy on your phone is not sufficient.

8. Can I enter Vietnam before the “valid from” date on my e-visa?
No. You can only enter on or after the starting date of validity. However, you can enter after your intended entry date, as long as you exit before the “valid until” date.

9. My name is spelled wrong on the approved e-visa. Is it still valid?
No. Any discrepancy, no matter how small, between your e-visa and your passport can result in denial of entry. You must apply for a new, corrected e-visa immediately.

Extensions & Overstays

10. Can I extend my 30-day or 90-day e-visa?
Officially, e-visas cannot be extended from within Vietnam. To stay longer, you must exit the country and apply for a new e-visa. Some local agencies may offer complex in-country solutions, but the most reliable method is a “visa run.”

11. What happens if I overstay my e-visa?
Overstaying is a serious offense. You will face a fine (typically ~$25 USD per day) and may have difficulty re-entering Vietnam in the future. Always exit before your visa expires.
